Storybook Land in Aberdeen = Awesome

I really can't believe i have never been to Aberdeen before. Wylie Park and Storybook Land are a child's dream (next to Disney anyway). Easton found it to be entertaining and Ryson was in love with the whole experience.

Admission is free! It all is run by the Aberdeen Parks Department on donations. The place is so clean, I was amazed. There were playgrounds and slides galore. There is a charge for the 3 rides they offer: a carousel, balloon ride and train around the park. It's a whole $1.75 per person for those over 2 years.

Our first camping adventure

We spent a couple days in Aberdeen this weekend. It was terrific. We stayed at Wylie Park Campground. That campground was awesome. Sooo much to do and it was tremendously clean and affordable. Our tent on the other hand.. well it went into the campground dumpster on our way out. Way too many holes and i do not handle things crawling on me when I sleep. The boys had an absolute blast. Very cool experience.

There were ponds for waterfowl right by our tenting area. We fed the ducks lots and lots of bread. The ducks below kept hissing at us as they waited not so patiently for bread. They were very rude!

Fourth of July Fun and Easton's Bday

It was Easton's 2nd birthday yesterday. We have a party scheduled for Saturday so we didn't do much. Walked around the fair for a bit and went home for some cake. Ryson wanted to make him a cake so Keith let him. He of course picked out pink frosting for his brother. Easton loved it!

My happy little guy. It's so fun to see his personality coming out more and more every day. He loves SpongeBob, Mickey (whom he calls Donald), and Lightning McQueen. KaChow! He has learned he gets big laughs when he walks around saying "Hi, I Mommy" or "Hi, I shoes" and big tickles when he wipes off all my kisses. Anything Ryson is doing is the coolest thing ever. He adores his grandparents and his daddy. Mommy is ok too in a pinch.

In a house of 3 boys there never seems to be a dull moment. Rough-housing is top priority it seems.

Ryson loves dressing up and playing with his bizillion stuffed animals. He recently got Woody and Jessie to add to the mix. These Woody pajamas were his pick at the Disney Store this weekend.

Easton is going through his cars phase, just like Ryson once did. We have to line them all up on the windowsill. Knocking them off so Ryson can hop behind the couch to retrieve them all is hillarious to him.

Easton got a new pair of crocs this weekend. He is slightly obsessed with them. Such a proud little guy when he's sporting only his diapers and crocs throughout the house.

A couple pictures from the hotel in Bloomington. It's Best Western right across from the mall that has been newly remodeled. Good pool area for little ones!

Thankfully, this is all the water that's left around our house. It is drying out well and our mud pile is going down. We took advantage of a couple nice days and went for a walk and to the park. I think we've all been cooped up for way too long this winter!

Easton didn't feel so good this weekend. He's had a fever and cold. Evidently he was a little worn out at supper time Saturday. At least he was still so i could grab some pictures!

Ryson and I babysat Mira Sunday afternoon. He absolutely adores her, it was pretty cute. So far she puts up with it. Ryson seems to have a different alter ego every couple hours. Usually it's Batgirl, but today it has been mostly the blue power ranger.

I haven't had time to do pictures for other people latey, but am taking this time to learn more about my camera and shooting in manual mode.. it's work let me tell you, but fun at the same time. Easton has already learned it makes mom very happy when he stops for the camera and gives me a "cheese". He has also learned that he likes my response when he turns away from me and runs from the camera. If he could have someone chasing him 24/7 he would be in heaven.
I snapped this picture of him the other night and to me it totally represents his personality right now. The pure happiness that is in this child makes me smile. He is suddenly very fond of his Nukie and took over this blanket that was Ryson's. He refuses to go anywhere without it. Thankfully Ryson doesn't have an attachment to it and gave it up to his little brother without any hesitation.

This is my newest best friend Mira. She is my friend Dawn's baby and has now her own personal photographer for life.. Ryson is a little jealous, he harasses me about going to hold that baby again. Dawn is his godmother and it's "his Dawn", so the fact that she now has a baby isn't going over so well either. Hopefully he'll realize soon that mira is perfect and the closest thing to a sister he'll ever have!

Our house one morning last week. It was really pretty in person.

I've recently found a lot of great couponing and savings websites. I can't believe I never realized how much money a person can save and that it can actually be fun doing so.

Here's some of the stuff I have gotten for absolutely free with coupons and swagbucks over the last couple weeks. I never knew such a thing was possible! If you don't know about swagbucks, see a couple posts down. I cash mine in for amazon.com giftcards. That's how I got the BrainQuest workbook and cards. Ryson absolutley loves playing with the BrainQuest stuff. For those of you that don't know, Keith is doing an online schooling program through Minnesota State and stays home with the boys full time. Sometimes I worry that Ryson's brain is going to go to mush, so the little activities I can do with him that involve learning make me happy!

I may be the only photographer that can also do your taxes! Keep me in mind if you need help this season. I worked for a tax office in town one season and couldn't stand what they charged people for simple returns. I guess that's the same way I feel about paying for photography in town! Unfortunately you don't always get what you pay for, so why pay so darn much when you don't have to? That's my theory for the day!

Reading a Little Golden book we were trying to name the characters on the back of the book.. We came to one that I told him I think her name is Prarie Dawn. We got to another girl that I didn't know the name of so I told him I didn't know who she was. "I think her is pretty like Dawn too Mommy" (Dawn is the name of my friend and his godmother)

I changed into my pajamas and was walking down the hallway when Ryson came running up behind me with a bra in his hand. "Mommy, you get a new boobie thing? It very nice mommy, I like it!"

My friend Katie was nice enough to borrow me her family so I could get some practice in. It's been a while since I've been out on a normal shoot. I guess this one wasn't exactly normal though since I brought my kiddos along. Ryson thinks the world is his outhouse now that we're potty training. Every time we turned around he had his pants around his ankles and was watering the grass! It was very interesting. Thankfully Miss Maddie just went with the flow!

I'm about ready to try some photo sessions again! The next couple weekends are crazy for us, but after that I should have a little free time again. These will be perfect for those of you only needing a couple family pictures to use for Christmas cards and maybe a couple individual pics of the kids. Here's my little Batman. Ryson is pretty much living in this outfit these days. He runs around the house pretending to be fighting bad guys. It provides some good entertainment for Keith and I. For some reason Batman thinks beating up Mom is a good idea though. We're working on fixing that.

Wecome Easton David

We welcomed Easton into the world this morning at 7:28 am. C-section went as scheduled and I'm feeling pretty good already. Easton took a drink of fluid before coming out so he was suctioned quite a bit after making his appearance. He also received oxygen to get his levels up. For that reason he was kept in the nursery under observation for most of the morning. I finally was able to hold/feed him at 2 pm. I was quite sick on the operating table (again) and was given some sort of strong medication that ended up knocking me out for the entire morning. I guess it worked well that Easton wasn't able to come snuggle with me until later in the morning. He's in the nursery for observation again tonight while I try to get some more rest. Hoping tomorrow goes more smoothly!

Ryson was excited to meet his brother but isn't quite aware of the change that's about to occur in his life. He spent the majority of the day with Grandma and Grandpa and surely relished in all the individual attention. I think he'll spend more time at the hospital with us tomorrow getting in some family time.

Home Stretch

We're down to our last few days of being a family of 3. We're all getting excited for Easton to come out and join in the fun.

I have to admit I'm not a big fan of maternity pictures. Especially when it involves myself. Thought it would be fun to get a couple including Ryson though. Keith is a great sport and helped me capture what I had in mind.

Father's Day

We spent Father's Day at a Twins game. Grandpa John came with us and it was a great way to spend a Sunday. Ryson didn't seem to mind too much that I came along. Of course he spent the whole game switching between Daddy's lap and Grandpa's lap... and eating popcorn.

New Baby Class

Last week we went to a class at Meritcare for siblings. It was fun watching Ryson with the babies. He was a pro at diapering! Also got to tour the maternity ward and play with all the buttons on the beds. Can't wait to be laying in it fresh out of my c-section when he tries out those new skills.

Ryson also joined me for my weekly Dr. appointment this week. I wasn't quite sure how to explain the process of peeing in a cup to him. He was quite intrigued by it. I'm really hoping he doesn't try that one at home. He told me he's ready for Easton to come. Me too buddy, me too!

Another fall weekend in Minnesota

This weekend kind of stunk. The weather was horrible so we were inside the entire time. Of course we didn't get much cleaning or anything like that done. Just did a lot of lounging around. That's my favorite thing to do, but a little boring for the boys.
Ryson had yet another ENT checkup on Friday for his ears. They actually weren't infected this time but we were told he still has swollen glands and was given more antibiotics for that. We go back in another 8 weeks to see how he's doing. The doctor mentioned taking out his adenoids or putting tubes in again. Wonderful. I love having to knock a 3 year old out for surgery already. Guess we're lucky it's not anything more serious though. Here's the twirp in his chair waiting for the doctor. He grabbed a book and jumped right up into it. I thought he looked so big sitting there.

Afterwards we went to the DQ "the ice cream store" as Ryson calls it.

After a few bites we decided it was too cold to sit outside and eat our ice cream so we hopped in the van and went home. This is what he looked like by the time we got home.

Friday night we decided it was time to take away the "nukie". We've tried this several times before and were met with an entire evening of screaming. This time we were prepared to get only a few hours of sleep in between the screaming sessions. Keith and I were shocked to experience only about 5 minutes of resistance before Ryson accepted his fate. After that 5 minutes he was great for the entire rest of the weekend without it. Yipee! As a reward for being a big boy, he got to go to Chuck E Cheese.

Now to work on potty training and sleeping in our own bed. One battle at a time though!

I'm just sitting here relaxing on the couch. For some reason my relaxing involves sitting here with my laptop going. As if I don't have enough computer time while at work! I'm checking the blogs that I'm addicted to and getting frustrated that they don't have many recent updates. Then it dawns on me that I have really neglected this blog! I sort of feel like I don't have anything to post when I am not doing photos for other people.

Guess I can share what we're up to at home. We recently spent the weekend in Vegas for Keith's brother's wedding. We stayed at Excalibur which I was pleasantly surprised with. Ryson thought our castle hotel was the greatest thing ever. We got to spend a lot of time at the pool, which was awesome!

I am struggling with a slight bout of the nesting syndrome. It's driving me crazy. I've cleaned out my dresser and underneath the beds and started on the closets. I'm trying to figure out what we should do for Ryson's 3rd Birthday in July. His birthday falls the weekend after I will most likely be in for a C-section. Last year we had everyone out to our house for it. Cleaning the house for a bunch of people isn't sounding too fun this year though. A swimming party sounds tons easier. Unfortunately I haven't yet convinced the soon to be 3 year old that we should do anything other than "a party in the garage".

I think I'm going to get back to my blog searching and facebook obsession. Here's a quick picture since posting seems pointless without one!

We started working on the baby's room this weekend. As you can tell, we painted blue. I hope to add a few different colors of circles on the walls as well. Haven't yet decided on the best way to do that. Could be interesting. Ryson loved helping Keith paint. For those of you wondering, he does have underwear on but refused to use a paint shirt since Daddy wasn't wearing one..

We have finally had a couple nice days to enjoy being outside. Keith and Ryson set up the "trampine". He's pretty funny to watch on it. Not too much confidence yet.

I am also happy to report that I have actually been feeling fairly good lately. I hate to admit it since I'm a little superstitious, but there you have it. I am thankful for the nausea medication that finally seems to be doing it's job. Less than 11 weeks to go before baby is due to make his arrival! Can't wait!

We got hit pretty hard with snow from this blizzard. Hopefully a snow plow makes it out here sometime soon so we can leave if we need to.
I was able to get caught up on pictures while being home the last two days. I've decided to not take any new photo appointments right now. I will let you know when I'm feeling up to it again.

How awesome would it be to hibernate all winter long? That sounds just about perfect to me right now. If there was some way to put myself in a voluntary coma until say July 15 I would totally sign up for it. And while we're at it, i want to be a MALE bear. Cause we all know how much easier the males of every species have it.

Why is it that when you're feeling sicker than sick people come out of the woodwork who have the desire to tell you all about their wonderful fairytale pregnancy with no sickness at all? I'm going to soon shoot these people. (would a jail allow me to hibernate??) I DO NOT want to hear about how great you felt while you were pregnant. On the other hand, if you spent every half hour of your day looking for the nearest trash can - i WOULD LOVE to hear from you. I'm going to soon start writing pregnancy related Christmas carols. I'll share them with you when i'm done! I bet you can't wait!

I will be taking the months of December and January off from pictures. Most of you know that we're expecting another munchkin. I'm currently exhausted and not feeling well. So, I need a little break to try to lift some of the stress for a little bit.

I have also decided to focus only on children and family photography. I have dabbled in a little bit of everything over the past year and half and realize what I enjoy doing most. There is something about chasing your children around that gives me joy.

I do have a few sessions out there that are outside this area. Of course those will be honored and I'll do my best at them as well.

I love little kids. It's so much fun witnessing all their little personalities. They are all so different, but so much alike at the same time. They all love to run away from the camera lady and giggle uncontrollably when mom and dad are threatening to tickle them. Jackson was a delight for me to chase around. Gotta love the little giggles!

Meet Maggie

This is Maggie. In some people's opinion, Maggie has a face that only a mother could love. I do love that little face, but Maggie is what you would call a pain in the rear end. Ok, a BIG pain in the rear end. She is constantly eating things she shouldn't, going to the bathroom in places she shouldn't be going, tearing up the garbage, etc. etc. etc. To get even, Maggie was the subject of my photo torture earlier this week. I was trying out some new ways of doing things. She is not a very willing subject. It took quite a few takes just to get her to look in my general direction. I do believe she is the most stubborn dog in the tri-state area.

Now this one is Maggie thinking that if she pretends I'm not next to her I will go away eventually. Can you see her little eyes trying to peek to see if I'm still there?

Even though Maggie is the biggest pain in the butt dog you would ever meet, this little guy sure does enjoy her for some reason. Maybe he knows that Maggie is the closest thing to a farm animal he will ever have.

Dawn was nice enough to come out and take some family pics for us tonight. I despise being on the other side of the camera! I had no patience for my own child during this endeavor, however could sit for an hour in order to get a great shot of someone else's kids. Thankfully the family pic is over for another year. Maybe by next year I will have lost my love for cheeseburgers... or not.

Ornaments/ Wall Hangings

Here is a look at my newest photo project. These collages are printed on matboard backing, making them sturdy. These are sized at 5 inches x 5 inches and would be light enough to hang on the Christmas tree or on your cubicle wall with a push pin. All the text and photos are completely editable. I want to try making one in a larger size as well. The style of MaKena's I think would be adorable in a 10x10 or 20x20 to hang on a child's bedroom wall.

There are lots more designs to choose from. Someday I'll get those into a gallery on my main website.

The 5x5's are going to be offered for $12. Additional copies of the same 5x5 collage will be $8.

Jaren and Madalyn - Pay it Forward Recipients

I was lucky enough to get to meet Jaren and his family this weekend. Jaren underwent heart surgery in July to repair a heart condition that he has had since birth. Now everything looks great! This family has been through a lot and were a joy to be around. The kids were energetic as ever and might have even had a little fun! We were given a great day for pictures and took advantage of it! Jaren's story should remind all of us to be thankful for the things we do have. Sometimes we take the health of our children for granted. I cannot imagine having to watch my child go through what Jaren has.

Moorhead Homecoming Parade

We took Ryson to his first parade on Friday. It was a joint parade this year for Moorhead Senior High and MSUM Moorhead. Ryson really enjoyed chasing the candy that was thrown from the floats! Here he is running back to us with his loot in hand.

The Moorhead orchestra tried to set a record for the largest marching orchestra. I had never seen such a thing before. Not sure if they made the record, but it sure was interesting to watch!
